The Sanford Underground Laboratory does notcurrently provide regular public tours. However, the Homestake Visitor Center at 60 W Main St., in Lead, S.D., does offer regular trolley tours of a portion of our surface campus, including a visit to the Yates Shaft hoist room. Contact them at 605 584-3110 or CLICK HERE for more information. (See the map below for the Visitor Center location.)
Other visitors must make appointments or other arrangements in advance. Call (605) 722-8650 for more information. (See our "Contact" page for staff telephone extensions and e-mail addresses.)
A visitor's first stop is the Yates Administration Building front desk, which is open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Non-frequent visitors must have a valid driver’s license or other government-issued photo identification. Non-U.S. citizens must present a Permanent Resident Card or a valid passport, plus visa documentation and all accompanying documentation. Visitors are issued badges, which they must wear conspicuously while at the Sanford Lab. (If you have an appointment, please allow time to sign in and get a badge.) Visitors must return their badges when they sign out.
